Facade of Arnhem Central is being replaced

After six years, The facade of the Arnhem train station will be replaced. During the official opening, the translation received the name ‘Arnhem Centraal’. Due to this name change, the facade is being replaced with the new name. mbX will be producing the replacement facade elements of high-performance concrete.

FIRST PROJECT BY MBX

The production of the unique double-curved façade elements for Arnhem Station in 2013 was mbX’s very first project. We produced a total of 1600 unique double-curved façade elements and roof panels. This production was based on the impressive design by UNStudio. The elements were produced using a specially made concrete mix and flexible moulds. Reuse of the moulds resulted in higher efficiency and lower costs. This project has won several awards such as the Dutch Concrete Award in 2015 and the European Concrete Award in 2016.

NAME CHANGE

On 9 November 2015, the renovated station was officially opened. During the opening, it was given the name Arnhem Centraal. The intention was to add the word ‘Centraal’ to the facade of the station. Meanwhile, the name change has been implemented everywhere except on the facade. This will change in 2021. After six years the façade will be replaced with the new name Arnhem Centraal. Just like in 2013, mbX is involved as a specialist in producing the replacement facade elements.
